2019 Celebration of Service: The Days and Weeks After

    by admin November 18, 2019
    written by admin

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, The Home Depot Foundation partnered with Impossible Roads Foundation to construct a two-unit tiny home from a 40ft high-cube shipping container for a retired Navy Veteran and first responder who requires a more accessible residence better equipped to further his medical treatments and be closer to family and caregivers. This home and all subsequent homes built with shipping containers for disabled and displaced U.S. Veterans have been affectionately named the Impossible Tiny Home (#ImpossibleTinyHome).  During the October 29th build event, teams will frame the shipping container, paint home exterior, build decorative pieces and make ADA accessible modifications to turn the tiny house into a suitable home for the deserving Navy Veteran. More than 100 members of Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force, will complete the work on their day off. Following the event the Impossible Roads Foundation and its dedicated sponsors will build and finish this tiny home as well seven more to complete their commitment to serve those who have served our country so well.

This project, beginning in Marysville Washington, is part of The Home Depot’s ninth annual Celebration of Service campaign to improve the homes and lives of U.S. military veterans and their families. Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has transformed more than 40,000 homes and facilities for veterans across the country. Giving back to veterans is personal to The Home Depot, as more than 35,000 of the company’s associates have served in the military.

As part of the campaign and for the first time ever, Team Depot will temporarily trade their traditional orange for military green T-shirts to honor the service men and women who have served us all. To learn how to get involved in your community, visit military.com and impossibleroads.org.
